Thread & Turf — Our Story

Your golf polo is a water bottle. Not similar to one. It is one. Polyester is PET, the same plastic they make bottles from, melted down, spun into thread, and sold to you as "performance fabric." Go check the tag on your favorite polo. Odds are you've been golfing in plastic for years. Here's the annoying part: try finding a golf-specific polo with no polyester in it. Not less polyester. None. It basically doesn't exist. Cotton already took back underwear and gym wear, but golf, the one light-duty sport played in direct sun for up to five hours straight, is still dressed head to toe in crude oil byproduct.Picture a future Saturday morning instead. You put on a striped cotton polo that feels like your favorite old shirt did the day you bought it. It breathes on the back nine instead of clinging to your spine. You finish hole 18, sit down for a beer, and the shirt doesn't smell like a hockey bag. It looks like golf used to look: Feeder stripes, knitted into the fabric, not printed on top. It gets softer with every wash, and it'll still be in the rotation in five years. When someone inevitably asks you where it's from, you'll know exactly what to tell them. Now the part the big brands don't put on the hang tag. Every time you wash a polyester shirt, it sheds hundreds of thousands of plastic microfibers that flow out with the rinse water, into rivers, into fish, and back into you. Scientists have found microplastics in human blood, lungs, and testicles. Sperm counts in men have been falling for decades, and researchers keep circling the same suspects: plastics and the hormone-disrupting chemicals they're made with. Meanwhile, think about where a polo actually sits. Your armpits, chest, and back are some of the
most absorbent real estate on your body, packed with sweat glands and open pores, and a round of golf is up to five hours of heat and sweat pressing that fabric against them. When your polyester polo finally pills out, it sits in a landfill for the next 200 years, because plastic doesn't rot.
Cotton just... doesn't do any of that.So we're making the polo shirt golf forgot about: Lightweight 95% cotton pique, 5% spandex for stretch in your swing, as well as yarn-dyed multi color stripes and a similar modern athletic fit to any golf polo in your wardrobe.Golf looked better before plastic. We can assure that you will too.Thread & Turf - The Cotton Standard
